In November 1974, in the quiet town of Amityville on Long Island, a young man named Ronald DeFeo shot and killed six members of his own family as they slept in their beds at 112 Ocean Avenue. That part is not a legend. It is a documented and horrifying crime.
The legend came a year later. In December 1975, a couple named George and Kathy Lutz moved into that same house with their three children, buying it cheaply because of what had happened there. Twenty eight days later they fled, leaving nearly everything behind. They described green slime oozing from walls, swarms of flies in the dead of winter, cold spots, a foul presence, and George waking every night at the exact hour the murders were thought to have occurred.
The story became a bestselling book and a wave of films. It also drew fierce doubt. DeFeo’s own defense lawyer later said he and the Lutzes had cooked up much of the haunting over bottles of wine, and later owners of the house reported nothing unusual at all.
Makes you wonder whether a house where something truly evil happened can hold onto it, or whether we simply cannot resist filling a place of real horror with ghosts.

I believe that energy leaves a mark, especially when the energy is extremely positive or negative. That house probably did have a presence leftover and should have been burnt down after the original crime occurred.
