Pythagoras

Pythagoras of Samos lived in the sixth century before Christ. He studied with the priests of Egypt and the sages of the East, then founded a school in southern Italy where men and women lived together in study, silence and purity.

He taught that number is the language of the Kosmos and that the planets sing a music of the spheres. His followers preserved his rule of life in the Golden Verses.

In Their Words

“Do not let sleep close your eyes until you have gone over each deed of the day three times. Where did I go wrong? What did I do? What duty did I leave undone?”

The Golden Verses (translation by Dan Dillman)

What This Sage Teaches Us

Pythagoras taught that the soul is immortal and that harmony is the secret of life, harmony in the body, in the mind and with the Kosmos. His evening review is one of the oldest spiritual practices in the world, and one of the most powerful.

Reflect: Tonight before sleep, review your day. What would you do differently?
