Kecksburg 1965

What do you think about this?

On the evening of December 9, 1965, a fireball streaked across the sky over at least six states and into Canada. Most who saw it assumed it was a meteor. But near the small town of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, people said something came down slow, almost as if it were guided, and settled into the woods.

The locals who reached the site told a stranger story. They described an object about the size of a small car, shaped like a giant acorn, with a band of markings around its base that looked almost like writing. Before crowds could gather, they said, the military arrived, sealed off the woods, and hauled the thing away on the back of a flatbed truck. Then the official word came down. There was nothing there. Just a meteor.

For decades the Air Force and NASA gave shifting answers. In 2005 NASA finally said its experts had examined fragments and judged them pieces of a re entering Soviet satellite, then added that the actual records had been lost back in the 1980s.

What if whatever fell at Kecksburg was exactly what those witnesses described, something built rather than born, recovered quietly and explained away before anyone outside could take a closer look?

A burning meteor, a fallen Soviet satellite, or a craft carried off in the dark? What do you think the military drove out of those woods?
