Mexico’s Alien Mummies

On September 12, 2023, two small figures were carried into Mexico’s Congress in glass display cases and set in front of lawmakers. Journalist and longtime researcher Jaime Maussan told the room these were non-human beings, recovered years earlier near Peru, and he said carbon dating placed them at roughly a thousand years old. Photographs from the hearing show the figures with elongated skulls and three fingers on each hand.

The reaction from working scientists was immediate and mostly one direction. Mexico’s own National Autonomous University, which had examined similar specimens years earlier, had already concluded that comparable figures were manufactured, human and animal bone reshaped and bound together with modern materials. Multiple biologists who reviewed photos from the hearing pointed out anatomical features that looked assembled rather than grown as a single organism.

Maussan has presented material like this before, and critics note he has a long track record of claims that did not hold up. Still, no independent lab result from the Congress specimens themselves has been made public and cleared, so the case remains formally open in a way most similar claims never do, because this one now sits in an official government record.

What if the fact that lawmakers took it seriously enough to hold a hearing matters more than whether the specimens themselves turn out to be real.

Elaborate hoax, or evidence a government actually put on the record?
